Shopping

Today after school, I picked up the girls and we headed to Goderich for ballet and an evening of shopping. Samantha needed basically everything for summer, nothing much fit from last year. We found a whole lot of stuff for Katrina in the boxes I keep when stuff is given to us or Samantha grows out of it. Katrina was so exited about it all last night when she was trying on stuff but tonight she just couldn't hide her disappointment when Samantha got all new stuff. I told Katrina she could choose a couple things but I know how hard it is with all the choice that's out there. She has really good taste too!We did great at Walmart but by the time we got to Zeller's, Katrina was getting tired and started to fully realize what was going on and began to cry. How do you explain to an 8 year old the value of a dollar and that she can't always have everything she wants? I've never been indulgent, probably more the opposite! She was very upset that she"only got 3 things and Sammy got 2 Million!" Maybe I should take them shopping separately so they don't know what the other is getting. I kept my cool but I was at a loss for any ideas of what to do.
I don't want Samantha to feel guilty about what she is getting because she needs these clothes. She was getting upset at the end of our shopping trip because I was trying to get her to understand what Katrina was feeling by turning the situation around. She understood then but I'm not sure it helped. Anyway.....

Time for bed. Hopefully things will look better tomorrow.
